on December 10th's Carrotmob!
It was a huge success, and a percentage of profits
from Saturday will be used to set up
storefront recycling bins.
Since there are no recycling facilities for customers,
we hope to inspire a trend towards an eco-friendlier
Hawaii Kai shopping center!
We will also use proceeds from the Carrotmob
for local cardboard recycling services.
We asked the community:
Do you want to support our store's efforts
to reduce waste?
And the mob said YES!
Another huge thank you to everyone who helped make the Carrotmob a quirky, inspiring, and successful event:
• Danny Hee and Mango Season for providing entertainment
• Hazel Lee for sewing festive & fun carrot-print eco bags
• Jim DiCarlo from Each One Teach One Farms for providing Bokashi compost bucket demonstrations and donating a bucket to our deli
• Sabrina from Aloha Health and Wellness for energizing our weary mobbers with free mini massages.
• Hawaii Energy for providing Advanced Power Strips and LEDs to all Carrotmobbers
• Whoa! Fat kitchen grease disposal boxes from
Island Shell for letting us carry their fantastic, clever product. (Boxes still available!)
• KYA Sustainability Studio for bringing Carrotmobs to Hawaii, for lending us your star dancing carrot, and
for supporting a Carrotmob community in Hawaii
- And, of course, a huge mahalo to Kanu Hawaii for approaching us in the first place, and asking if we'd be interested in participating in a "Buy-Cott" to support the No Waste Challenge and Kanu's efforts to reduce local waste.
Kanu members and the community came out en masse and demonstrated that change is possible through individual efforts, group action, and education.
